A July Letter from The Chocolate Muse
Two hundred and fifty years.
That is the milestone being celebrated this July. Fireworks. Flags. Family gatherings. I'll celebrate alongside everyone else, but I won't celebrate without remembering the whole story, because history isn't honored by telling only the comfortable parts. It is honored by telling the truth.
Two hundred and fifty years after the Declaration of Independence, we are still learning what freedom truly means. We continue to wrestle with inequality, with prejudice, with the lingering effects of land taken from Indigenous peoples, of slavery, discrimination, and generations of voices that struggled to be heard. The story of America is beautiful in many ways, but it is also unfinished. And perhaps that is exactly what makes it worth believing in.
Because this nation has never been built by one people alone. It was built by countless hands, countless languages, countless traditions, and countless dreams woven together. Indigenous communities who first cared for this land. African Americans whose labor, resilience, creativity, and courage shaped the nation's soul. Immigrants who arrived carrying recipes, music, faith, inventions, and hope from every corner of the world. Families whose stories looked different, but whose aspirations were remarkably the same.
America's greatest strength has never been its sameness. Its strength has always been its diversity.
Brown culture, in all its beautiful expressions, has profoundly shaped who we are. The music that fills our celebrations. The flavors that gather families around a table. The rhythms that move our hearts. The art, innovation, sports, entrepreneurship, and traditions that have enriched this country for generations. But the story doesn't end there. Every culture has brought something irreplaceable to the table. Together, they created something none of us could have built alone. That is the lesson I hope we never forget. It is also the lesson at the heart of Chocolate City.
In the Cocoverse, no House stands above another. The Terrani, the Ivories, the Semis, the Browns, the Cocos; each carries its own gifts, wisdom, history, and beauty. Every House contributes something essential. None is complete without the others. Difference is not merely accepted. It is celebrated, honored, and sacred. That is the world I hope we continue building here—not one that asks people to become the same, but one that recognizes our differences as the very thing that makes us stronger. Because beneath every culture...
Every language... Every skin tone... Every ancestor... Every story... Lives the same spark of life. One soul. Many expressions. That truth inspired something close to my heart this month.
I created a new collection called Held. No herbs. No adaptogens. Nothing to improve you, calm you, or optimize you. Because some things don't need fixing. They simply need to be embraced. Held was created for anyone who has ever needed to feel safe, remembered, comforted, and loved exactly as they are. It is a reminder that sometimes the greatest gift we can offer one another is simply our presence. Each piece is handcrafted with premium chocolate and real fruit, allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves.
Warm Embrace — Milk chocolate with strawberries and cream.
Spooning — Semi-sweet chocolate with orange and vanilla bean.

This month's featured truffle is Warm Embrace.
Because if there is one thing our world could use a little more of right now, it isn't another argument. It isn't more division, or another reason to separate ourselves. It is the courage to hold one another with compassion. To listen. To learn. To honor the stories that came before us while creating better memories for those who come after.
As we celebrate this July, may we remember that our greatest legacy will never be found in monuments or declarations alone. It will be found in how we treat one another.
In how we honor every culture that has helped shape this nation. In how we choose understanding over fear, and how we continue building a future where every person knows they belong.
We are, and have always been...
One soul.
One humanity.
Many beautiful expressions.
With chocolate, hope, and gratitude,
